The Work of Art in The Age of Mechanical Reproduction
This essay written by Walter Benjamin in the 1936 was about the revolution of the how photography and film changed the perception of what was considered art. Since now things could be reproduced was there something that was lost from being one of a kind. Walter believed that there was and aura missing from the new medium. Although I don't think he believed it was technically a bad thing.
I believe that the shift definitely took away an aurora away also but it wasn't necessarily a bad thing. For one it opened up a whole new market for the politicization of art. The difference between a painting and a photograph is the aurora a painting has being unique and one of a kind. The photo can be as equally as stunning but just the fact know that it is reproduced cheapens it.

analog vs. digital

I came across these stunning photos of of horse and then I wanted to find a way to represent the analog version so I found a pencil drawing of a horse head similar to the picture to compare the two. The picture the digital version has a lot more detail to it than most people can draw. Some of the things like the lighting and the texture of the fur are just not portrayed as well in the analog version. I think that they do achieve the same ultimate goal of portraying a horse but there are strengths and weakness within both methods.

The Medium is the Message
I enjoyed reading this essay from 1964 written by Marshall McLuhan. I like how he said that "The products of modern science are not in themselves good or bad; it is the way that it is used that determines their value." Ge then goes on to say that guns are not good or bad it depends on what their used for. I totally agree with him on this because the modern technology it made for a good reason its not our problem that society becomes hooked on it and overuses it.

While looking on Rhizome I came across this piece called Hello World! by Christopher Baker. It is a video installation that is composed of thousands of video diary's found from all around the web. The sounds of all of them talk are played while all the videos are playing and it interchanges between everyone at once and then only one person speaking. I found it very interesting because it makes you think of how small one voice is in this huge world with billions of people.
